21.52 lakh people continue to be affected by floods in Assam

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in the State is improving gradually but there seems to be little respite for the flood-affected people as the floods have caused widespread destruction. The death toll due to floods and landslides continues to rise. Eight persons died due to floods in the past 24 hours in the State. The death toll has risen to 134 in this flood season.

According to official reports, five deaths were registered in the Cachar district while Nagaon, Morigaon and Kamrup (metro) districts registered one death each.

According to the flood bulletin of the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority), the River Kopili is flowing above the danger level at Dharamtul in the Nagaon district.

Floods have affected 22 of the 35 districts in the State. As many as 21,52,415 people in 2,254 villages are facing the wrath of the floods. Around 1,91,194 people are taking shelter in 538 relief camps.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, Jishnu Barua took the stock of lifeline communication restoration in Barak Valley districts and Dima Hasao today through video conference (VC) with the Deputy Commissioners along with NHAI, NHIDCL, NF Railways, PWD (NH &Roads) etc. and requested the stakeholders for immediate restoration of the damages occurred during recent flood and landslide. Barua also instructed to complete the assessment of all the Rehabilitation Grant (RG) in Cachar before July 10, 2022.
