21,549 cattle seized across Assam from 2016 to October 31, 2020

GUWAHATI: Altogether 21,549 cattle were seized across Assam from 2016 to October 31, 2020, and 1,653 persons arrested with these cattle smuggling cases.

This was revealed by Veterinary Minister Atul Bora in reply to a written question by Congress legislator Nandita Das in the Assam Assembly on Tuesday. The maximum number of 6,031 cattle was seized in Dhubri district followed by 5,687 in South Salmara-Mankachar district — where the highest number of 427 arrests were also made. A total of 1,123 cattle were seized and 47 arrested in Guwahati during the mentioned period.
