DOOMDOOMA/ TINSUKIA: Mishap struck Baghjan BGR 5 yet again at around 1.15 pm on Wednesday when three foreign experts of Singapore-based M/s Alert Disaster Company were injured in a "blast" and the subsequent flash fire at the site.

The incident occurred when the experts, in a bid to divert the flame, made an attempt to open the spool, a pre-requisite technique to install the BOP (Blow Out Preventer).

The accident took place when the operation to douse the fire at the blazing well was going on. The operation had to be halted for the remaining period of the day.

OIL spokesperson Tridib Hazarika said in a clarification, "Today in the afternoon, three experts from M/s Alert – Anthony Steven Reynolds, Doug Dallas and Craig Neil Duncan – suffered minor burn injuries while removing a spool from the well head. The three experts were provided immediate medical attention by a doctor at well site and they were taken to burn unit section of Astha Nursing Home at Dibrugarh later. They have been released after dressing of the burn injuries. It is expected that Baghjan oil well operations will resume at Baghjan tomorrow."

Meanwhile, constant water umbrella, dewatering of the ramp/ cellar area were carried out to provide a safe working space for the working personnel. Side shutters and mats were ready for use at the site. All equipment like BOP and other requirements like flare lines etc., were kept in ready condition for the capping operation.
