Guwahati: A total of 35 projects worth Rs. 4857.11 crore have been sanctioned for the northeastern states, including Assam, under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) Scheme, up to November 30, 2024. An amount of Rs 669.26 crore has been released so far under the PM-DevINE scheme.
This was revealed by the Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, in the Lok Sabha today. According to the information submitted by the Union Minister, a total of 7 projects worth Rs 646.06 crore have been sanctioned in the fiscal year 2022-23. Of this amount, Rs 121.19 crore has already been released. In FY 2023-24, 18 projects worth Rs 3437.27 crore were sanctioned, of which Rs 7.78 crore has been released. Moreover, in FY 2024-25, a total of 10 projects costing Rs 773.78 crore has been sanctioned, and an amount of Rs 540.29 crore has been released till the end of November 2024.
PM-DevINE was announced as a new central sector scheme with 100% central funding in the Union Budget 2022-23 with an initial outlay of Rs. 1500 crore. The Union Cabinet on October 12, 2022, approved the scheme with a total outlay of Rs. 6600 crore for the period from FY 2022-23 to FY 2025-2026.
Out of the 35 projects under the scheme, 28 projects have been sanctioned during the year 2023-24 and the current year. The usual time frame for completion of a project is 2 to 3 years after award of the work.
Under this scheme, the central government has sanctioned 7 projects for Assam until the end of November 2024. The projects are listed as: (i) Transformation of 20 schools as Centres of Excellence in the Kamrup District; (ii) Establishment of Dedicated Services at BBCI, Guwahati, for the Management of Paediatric and Adult Haematolymphoid Cancers in North East India; (iii) Development of Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor at Guwahati; (iv) Construction of Medical College (100 Admissions) at Sivasagar District, Assam; (v) Upgradation/widening of existing 2 lane road to 4 lane road connecting LGB International Airport - From VIP junction to Dharapur Junction; (vi) A Digital Design and 3D Printing Centre of Excellence in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in collaboration with other government agencies at Tech City, Guwahati; and (vii) Establishment of a Skill Development Centre at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati.
