GUWAHATI: Despite all awareness campaigns launched by State Transport Department and traffic police, a total of 541 cases of road accidents have taken place in different parts of the state during Durga Puja celebrations.

According to official records of the GVK EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute), the 108 Mritujnay Emergency Services attended 541 road traffic accident cases in the five days of the Durga Puja celebrations from October 11 to October 15, 2021.

The 108 Mritunjay Emergency Service has attended 80 such cases on October 11, 94 cases on October 12, 120 cases on October 13, 137 cases on October 14 and 110 cases on October 15.

The Kamrup district registered the highest number of 49 cases from October 11 to October 15.

Of the 49 cases, five cases occurred on October 11, 10 on October 12, 15 on October 13, 12 on October 14 and 7 cases on October 15.

The Golaghat district was second in the row with 48 cases, followed by Sonitpur and Tinsukia with 32 cases each, Barpeta and Nalbari with 29 cases each, Darrang with 28 cases and the Karbi Anglong district with 27 cases.

The Dima Hasao district registered only two accident cases.

In the Kamrup Metropolitan district, the GVK EMRI attended eight cases during the Durga Puja celebrations.
