Aadhaar generation making progress amidst pandemic

60.39 per cent of projected population issued Aadhaar cards in State

GUWAHATI: Despite the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020, the Aadhaar generation in Assam has been progressing steadily – achieving 60.39 percent Aadhaar of the projected population of the State – till May this year.

The data which the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) shared with the GAD (General Administration Department), Assam in May this year has revealed this fact. The GAD is the State registrar for Aadhaar implementation. The Aadhaar implementation is going on in the State under the monitoring of the GAD.

According to the statistics received by the GAD from the UIDAI, the projected population of Assam in 2020 was 3,56,07,039. As many as 2,78,85,594 people of the State enrolled for the Aadhaar generation. And Aadhaar cards were issued to 2,15,04,859 of them. This figure stands at 60.39 per cent of the projected population of the State. As many as 34,54,54 of the people enrolled for the Aadhaar were rejected.

A district-wise analysis shows that the Chirang district tops the list with the Aadhaar generation of 87.26 per cent of its projected population. The Tinsukia district is at the bottom of the list with the Aadhaar generation of just 36.59 per cent of its projected population. While Kamrup (M) generated Aadhaar for 60.02 per cent of its projected population, Kamrup did well by issuing the Aadhaar for 72.29 per cent of its projected population.

The new government has given thrust on the Aadhaar generation. This is because most Central and State Government schemes need Aadhaar cards to avail of the benefits.

Following a directive from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the GAD set the deadline of August 31, 2021, to complete the Aadhaar generation process in the State.

The last date of payment of amount under 'Vivad se Vishwas' (without additional amount), which was earlier extended to June 30, 2021, has been further extended to August 31, 2021.

Similarly, the last date of payment of amount under 'Vivad se Vishwas' (with additional amount) has been notified as October 31, 2021.

The time limit for passing assessment order, which was earlier extended to June 30, 2021, has been further extended to September 30, 2021.

The time limit for passing penalty order, which was earlier extended to June 30, 2021, has been further extended to September 30, 2021.

For further easing of compliance measures, the Finance Ministry has extended the time limit for processing equalization levy returns, which was earlier extended to June 30, 2021, to September 30, 2021.

The statement of income paid or credited by an investment fund to its unit holder in Form No. 64D for the previous year (2020-21), required to be furnished on or before June 15, 2021 under Rule 12CB, has been extended to on or before July 15, 2021.

The statement of income paid or credited by an investment fund to its unit holders in Form No. 64C for the previous year (2020-21), required to be furnished on or before June 30, 2021, can now be furnished on or before July 31, 2021. (IANS)
