GUWAHATI: At last, the police traced the absconding suspended inspector, Biman Roy, former OC of Ghograpar Police Station in the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital), and arrested him.

RFP personnel found an unidentified man in an unconscious condition at Panikhaiti Railway Station this morning but could not detect him. The RPF and GRP personnel admitted the man to the GMCH for treatment.

According to RPF sources, the man regained consciousness at around 7.30 a.m. in the GMCH and disclosed his name as Biman Roy. The RPF and GRP personnel handed Roy over to his family members.

When asked, Roy said that he fell unconscious while walking near the Panikhaiti Railway Station.

On June 26, a 17-year-old girl lodged an FIR at Nalbari Police Station and complained that on June 21, she and a male person were brought to Ghograpar Police Station, where an SI assaulted her sexually, besides taking her obscene photos and giving obscene signals. Based on the FIR, Nalbari Police registered a case (287/23 u/s 354 (B)/509 IPC, R/W Sec 12/14 (1) of POCSO Act).

Additional SP Olindita Gogoi is investigating the case.

On June 29, the DGP made an announcement on social media that former Ghograpar Police Station OC Biman Roy had been absconding. The DGP also announced suitable rewards for clues leading to Roy's arrest.

Meanwhile, the investigation officer for the case, Olindita Gogoi, and Nalbari police arrested Roy and took him to Nalbari.
