Act Fast To Secure Students’ Future: AASU (All Assam Students’ Union)

GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) has demanded the State government to act immediately for breaking the logjam over Golaghat Engineering College so that an academic session of the students of the college does not go waste.

In separate letters to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, the State’s apex students’ body said that it is the State government’s bounden duty to secure the future of the students of the college by fulfilling all the 17 points set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with reference to the institution. The students’ union said that the government should have met the AICTE norms first before enrolling students in the college. “Our loud and clear message is that no injustice should be meted out to the students of this college,” the two letters said, adding: “There shouldn’t be any problem on the part of the government to meet the AICTE norms. The AICTE cited 17 points, including lack of infrastructure, absence of a permanent principal and also non-recruitment of regular faculty members for the cancellation of affiliation to the engineering college. If such are the problems, why can’t the government meet them to secure the future of the students?”

AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath said: “It’s a matter of shame! An injustice is being meted out to the students of Golaghat Engineering College. Dispur must take all measures as soon as possible and instill faith in the students of the college so that their future is safe and secure.”
