GUWAHATI: "We are not unfaithful; we are with the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) for the overall development of Assam. However, we haven't surrendered before the BJP. We have only political ties with them. Regionalism is still our prime agenda," declared the president of AGP (AsomGanaParishad) Atul Bora while addressing a large gathering at the 'Bihdia Mini Stadium' under Kamalpur Assembly Constituency in Kamrup district on Sunday.

This rally is part of the party's ongoing "JaitiyaOikyaSamaroh" being organized across the State. This is the third congregation in 2021. The other two rallies were held at Barpeta on January 5 and also at Algapur in Hailakandi district of the Barak Valley on January 6.

Bora added, "We apologize for our mistakes committed earlier. But, we want to assure the people of Assam that we won't betray them."

Criticizing the Congress and the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front), Bora alleged, "If these forces come to power, the indigenous people of Assam will be reduced to minority. The Congress regimes for 15 continuous years failed to do anything substantial for the sons of the soil. Once upon a time, the Congress had asked, 'Who is Badruddin?' But now, the Congress is planning to join hands with Badruddin's party – the AIUDF. Both the parties use the religious minorities as pawns. But, they hardly do anything for the development of these communities. We believe that the people of these religious communities have understood their game plan."

The AGP president added, "However, things have changed now with the present coalition government in Dispur going full stream to protect the identity of the local people of the State."

During the rally, party members felicitated Pension, Food & Civil Supplies Minister PhaniBhusanChoudhury for having completed 35 continuous years as legislator from Bongaigaon. He achieved this feat on January 9 (Saturday). On the occasion, Choudhury also extended his gratitude to the people of his constituency for reposing their confidence on him all these years.

AGP working president KeshabMahanta, party's RajyaSabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya, and Kamalpur MLA SatyabratKalita stressed the party's development politics in their respective speeches.
