'AGP to work for Assam Accord implementation'

GUWAHATI, May 24: On the occasion of completion of one year of the BJP-led coalition government in Assam on Wednesday, AGP president and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said one of the main agendas of his party is to implement the Assam Accord in letter and spirit.

Talking to reporters here, Bora said, “As we (AGP) are a part of the government at Dispur, we will continue to work towards the implementation of Assam Accord,” adding, “in the 2016 Assembly elections, the implementation of Assam Accord was one of the party’s main pre-poll promises.”

It may be mentioned that Team Sonowal took oath of office on May 24 last year.

Bora said Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal has laid stress on increased security along Indo-Bangla border and development of these areas. He himself has paid visits to the vulnerable stretches of Indo-Bangla border to take stock of the situation, Bora added. “The Chief Minister even instructed MLAs to visit areas along the Indo-Bangla border and submit their reports to the government.”

The AGP president stated that the government has given Rs 5 lakh as fincial assistance to each of the families of Assam Agitation martyrs.

When asked about the good works done so far by the new government at Dispur, Bora said, “We have successfully given a stable government to the people of the State and our campaign against corruption has been successful so far.”

When asked about going it alone in the upcoming Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) elections and panchayat elections scheduled to be held in 2018, the AGP president said, “We had an alliance in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. But there have been no alliances in local level polls in the State so far. But the three parties (BJP, AGP and BPF) are otherwise united.”
