MANGALDAI: The AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) has created confusion here following the party's initial projection of two candidates from 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency).

According to the information available in the official website of ECI (Election Commission of India), two candidates — namely Ajay Kumar Roy and Moti Lal Mandal — have filed their nomination papers before RO (Returning Officer) Dilip Kumar Borah. Both claimed to be AIUDF candidates for the 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC.

However, the incident took a dramatic turn in the evening of March 12. Immediately after filing his nomination papers, Ajoy Kumar Roy lodged a complaint at Mangaldai Police Station. Roy stated in the FIR that three persons — Majibur Rahman, Yusuf Ali and Sayadur Rahman — had snatched away from him the party's official letter (mentioning him as a party candidate) while he was waiting in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office to file his nomination. Mentionably, one of the accused persons — Majibur Rahman — is a general secretary of the AIUDF and the party candidate for 68 Dalgaon LAC.

The Police has registered a case vide number 110/2021 under Section 120 (B)/ 392/171 (C) of IPC (Indian Penal Code).

As the Police started inquiry into the complaint, one of the office bearers of the district committee of AIUDF reportedly informed the police that the party has withdrawn the nomination to Moti Lal Mandal; adding that Ajoy Kumar Roy will be the AIUDF candidate for 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC.
