APDCL Exam Fiasco: Eight Candidates Picked Up So Far

GUWAHATI: Will written examinations for recruitment of candidates in Assam at all be a foolproof system, not allowing any malpractice to happen? Such a goal is a far cry, given the fiasco in such a test conducted by the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) on Sunday. So far, eight candidates have been picked up for adopting malpractices in examination halls in six examination centres. Talking to the media on Monday, State Power Minister Topon Kumar Gogoi said: “There’s no question of corruption in the recruitment process. We’ve adopted a zero-tolerance attitude to corruption in the selection process. The appointment will be strictly on the basis of merit.”

Gogoi further said: “Already eight candidates have been picked up. We’ve asked the police to arrest all those who have received WhatsApp messages of the question papers of the APDCL’s examination.”

The written examination that took place on Sunday was a total mess. Many students alleged unfair practices at different examination centres. The situation came to such a pass that several students and an invigilator had to be detained by the police for alleged irregularities in the examination.
