APDCL snaps power to 1,790 consumers in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Altogether 166 electricity-theft cases were detected in June 2021 across Guwahati Electrical Zone having GEC (Guwahati Electrical Circle)-I and II. During this month, APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Limited) carried 326 raids against anti-theft and illegal power connections. On the other hand, APDCL stopped supplying electricity (till the pending dues are paid) to 1,790 general consumers in the first week of July.

Talking to The Sentinel, top APDCL officials said, "Operations are on to collect the power bills from the defaulters. Of the 65 raids conducted within GEC-I in June 2021, altogether 28 power-theft cases were detected and eight FIRs (First Information Report) filed. Moreover, 6,024 connections were disconnected. They owe Rs 40 crore approximately to APDCL. Mentionably, as many as 800 power disconnections were done in the first week of July. The defaulting consumers (all individuals) have the pending amount of Rs 54 lakh.

GEC-I encompasses the 13 electrical sub-divisions of Ulubari, Paltan Bazar, Fancy Bazar, Fatasil, Zoo Road, Kalapahar, Capital, Uzan Bazar, Chandmari, Narengi, Basistha, Sonapur, and Garbhonga.

Meanwhile, in June 2021 in GEC-II, altogether 261 raids were conducted, 138 power-theft cases detected, 47 FIRs lodged. During this month, a total of 5,266 disconnections (involving Rs 3,75,15,564 pending amount) were undertaken.

In the first week of July, a total of 990 disconnections (involving Rs 74,81,030) were undertaken and eight FIRs were lodged.

GEC-II includes the eight electrical subdivisions of Jalukbari, Amingaon, Sualkuchi, Hajo, Mirza, Azra, Chaygaon, and Boko.
