GUWAHATI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has summoned two more officers to appear before it on December 4 (Monday).

The two officers summoned are: Nabanita Sharma, Kokrajhar ASP and Kalyan Kumar Das, Cachar ASP.

It remains to be seen whether they comply with the summonses as the three officers summoned earlier failed to appear on Friday. The three officers, including two ACS officers Dhiraj Kumar Jain and Akashee Duwarah and APS officer Sukanya Das, were summoned to appear before the SIT on Friday, but they did not comply and remained absent on the day.

It should be noted that the police investigation and departmental proceedings against those accused of being involved in the scam are proceeding simultaneously.

On November 30, the SIT and high-level officials of the state government were closeted in a meeting in Dispur.

Notably, a total of 34 ACS and allied service officers selected through the CCE-2013 were indicted in the report by the Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma Judicial Inquiry Commission.

Meanwhile, three of those indicted by the Commission were arrested and arraigned. Two APS officers— Aishwarya Jibon Baruah and Shahjahan Sarkar —were arrested on November 22 in connection with a case registered at the Dibrugarh PS. Later, on November 29, Rakesh Das, who had been on the run from the police, was arrested from the Beltola area of the city. They were subsequently found to be guilty of wrong-doing in the selection exam. With their arrest, their connivance with APSC officials was confirmed and the modus operandi has come under the scanner.

The state government has also suspended 23 ACS, APS and allied service officers for their involvement in the cash-for-job scam that created ripples in the echelons of power and headlines across the nation.
