GUWAHATI: With the battle line for the Lok Sabha poll drawn in Assam, the BJP, it seems, is set to cajole the AGP to remain contented with three Lok Sabha seats – Barpeta, Dhubri and Koliabor – besides a Rajya Sabha seat to be vacated later. While the BPF has its stronghold Kokrajhar, the BJP is set to field candidates in Guwahati, Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Nagaon, Autonomous Council (Diphu), Silchar and Karimganj. The picture would become clear on March 16 when BJP president Amit Shah is set to declare the seat-sharing plan among the State’s ruling coalition formally.

Of course, the AGP has kept its hope for Mangaldoi seat alive. According to sources, an Asom Gana Parishad team is set to leave for New Delhi to meet the BJP’s national high command for the Mangaldoi seat.

Two Rajya Sabha seats are going to be vacant from Assam in June this year. The BJP is going to contest one of the seats, leaving the other for the AGP. The BPF will back both the AGP and the BJP in the Rajya Sabha election.

Talking to the media, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said: “Following instructions from party president Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Madhav, we’ve stitched an alliance with the AGP. As the ruling coalition, now we’ve the AGP, the BPF, the Rabha Joutha Sangram Samiti, the Tiwa Jatiya Aikya Mancha and the Gana Shakti on our side to fight the Congress. We’re hopeful of winning 12 seats in this Lok Sabha poll.”
