Assam: 5.34 lakh cases pending in subordinate courts of state

Guwahati: A total of 5,34,246 cases are pending in different subordinate courts under the jurisdiction of Gauhati High Court across Assam as of June 30, 2025.

The figures regarding pending cases in subordinate courts across the state were included in data provided by the Gauhati High Court in a report recently.

It is worth mentioning that a total of 5,31,502 cases were pending in subordinate courts under the HC at the start of the month of June 2025. During the month, a total of 30,245 cases were instituted, of which 6,188 were civil cases and 24,057 were criminal cases.

Through the month of June 2025, a total of 27,501 cases were disposed of by the courts, out of which 5,609 were civil cases and 21,892 were criminal ones. The total cases left pending at the close of the month were 5,34,246, of which 1,08, 930 were civil and 4,25,316 were criminal cases.

As for the pendency of cases more than five years old by the end of June, the total number of such cases stood at 65,197, of which 16,892 were civil cases and 48,305 were criminal ones, as per the data from Gauhati High Court.
