Assam: ABSU urges Amit Shah to implement Bodo Accord clauses in 6 months

A delegation of the ABSU met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him to ensure the implementation of each and every clause of the Bodo Peace Accord within six months.

GUWAHATI: A delegation of the ABSU (All Bodo Students’ Union) met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him to ensure the implementation of each and every clause of the Bodo Peace Accord within six months.

After a patient hearing, Home Minister Shan assured the ABSU delegation that the Central Government would take all possible efforts to implement the Bodo peace accord. BTC CEM Pramod Boro and Kokrajhar MP Joyanta Basumatary were also present at the meeting with Shah.

The ABSU delegation requested Shah to ensure more financial powers to the BTC through amendment to the Constitution. They also demanded ST (Hill) status for the Bodo Kacharis of the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts and ST (Plain) status for the Amry Karbis in accordance with Clause 6.1 of the Bodo Peace Accord.

The ABSU also raised the demand for the inclusion of a few villages of Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Lakhimpur districts into the BTR in accordance with Clause 3.1 of the Accord.

They also demanded Shah ensure the release of former NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary and six others and close the cases and arrest warrants against former NDFB cadres in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Meghalaya courts. The delegation demanded special recruitments of Bodo youths in paramilitary forces, the army, and the Assam police.
