 More than 2 crore persons inoculated with 1st dose

GUWAHATI: Assam, on Wednesday, achieved a milestone by crossing the 2-crore mark in the first-dose Covid-vaccination drive. Till the filing of this report at 6:30 pm, the Heath department personnel inoculated 2,00,06,618 persons with this dose.

During this timeframe, the second and final anti-covid jabs were administered to 76,11,639 persons. This vaccination drive was launched for the frontline workers in Assam on January 16, 2021.

Talking to The Sentinel, State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "I congratulate all the Health Warriors including the officials for achieving this major milestone. At the same time, I also thank the people who have participated in this anti-Covid battle. I appeal to the others who have are still unvaccinated to get themselves inoculated at the earliest. Presently, the State has adequate stock of vaccines."

Official sources have informed that the State has a stock of around 50 lakh vaccines — on Wednesday morning. Earlier on Tuesday (October 26), altogether 1,90,689 persons were vaccinated across the State.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Wednesday evening: "Assam makes history by vaccinating 2 cr people (almost inching towards the 100% of target) against #COVID19 today.

"Grateful to our Health workers for making this campaign a grand success. Grateful to Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi for guidance and making this a true #JanAndolan."
