Assam Assembly Autumn Session from today

GUWAHATI, Sept 23: The autumn session of the 14th Assam Legislative Assembly will commence from Monday. The nine-day long session is expected to witness barrage of questions on the NRC update exercise and tabling of several important bills.

On the first day of the session, there will be a presentation of reports of various Assembly Committees and Presentation of the list of Supplementary Demand for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for 2018-19.

Even though the Opposition is ready to raise several questions regarding the ongoing NRC update exercise, it is uncertain whether the government will respond to such questions since the issue is being heard by the Supreme Court.

On other hand, the government will table the Assam Electricity Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Assam Taxation (On Specified Lands) (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Assam Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Assam Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2018, Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University Bill, 2018, Assam Inland Water Transport Re-Organization Bill, 2018 and Assam Tea Plantations Employees Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

The election for the post of Deputy Speaker is expected to be held during the session tomorrow. The post of Deputy Speaker is lying vacant after BJP MLA from Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul tendered his resignation in May this year from the post of Deputy Speaker of Assam Assembly.
