GOLAGHAT: "The contribution of the tea community of Assam is indispensable in the formation of Assam. Its contribution to national life is also immense. There is boundless talent among the community. The new generation of the tea community must prepare themselves to take leadership not only of Assam but of the entire India. This requires hard work. Parents and society also have a lot to do and have responsibilities in this regard," said Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami, President of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), prominent litterateur, linguist, and research scholar, while participating as the chief guest in the educational awareness meeting and felicitation of meritorious students organized by the Borjan regional committee of All Assam Karmakar Lohar Society in Borjan tea garden on Sunday with grand arrangements.
In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Ruparam Karmakar, President of the organizing committee, he further said, "I am overwhelmed by the fact that the tea community has elevated the position of the President of the national organization Axam Xahitya Xabha to the pinnacle in today's grand function filled with beauty and aesthetics. People without a pen in hand can also be knowledgeable and even those with BA, MA, PhD degrees may not be truly knowledgeable. Being knowledgeable is not that easy.”
Dr Goswami also said, "Being educated doesn't mean having a degree. The true essence is the pursuit of becoming a human being with humanity. Only then will society move from beauty to greater beauty. I declare that we are and will always be one with the tea community." He also mentioned that the AXX had adopted extensive programmes through the Tea Community Language-Literature and Culture development sub-committee for the social, cultural, educational uplift of the tea community of Assam.
It is noteworthy that the reception by the tea community's singing-dancing groups and women's Jhumur groups overwhelmed the function. The function, managed by Narayan Karmakar, Executive President, and Rajiv Karmakar, Secretary of the organizing committee, began with the lighting of a lamp by Diganta Kumar Bhuyan, senior journalist and central executive member of AXX. The meeting was inaugurated by Dr Kajal Saikia, Chief General Manager of Numaligarh Refinery, prominent writer, and poet.
In the function, Abhiwartan Goswami, Vice-President of All Assam Students' Union, Ashok Senapati, General Secretary of AXX, Treasurer Maniram Lahan, Akash Phukan, Vice-Chairman of Assam Sports Board, prominent educationists Gunendra Nath Bora, Lokendra Nath Bora, Swagata Bora, Secretary of Paschim Golaghat branch Xahitya Xabha, Bibek Bora, Dr Ananta Baruah, Pabitra Duwara, Sagarika Bora, and others participated as distinguished guests.
Over two hundred meritorious students from the greater area were specially felicitated in the function. In the morning session, Atul Bora, Agriculture Minister of Assam Government, was present as a distinguished guest and delivered a goodwill speech. President of Karmakar Lohar Society Subhash Karmakar thanked and expressed gratitude to all concerned for making the daylong extensive programme a success.
