GUWAHATI: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Tuesday rubbished the notion of support to either the ruling NDA or opposition INDIA and announced it would go it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state next year.

The BPF’s statement came on the heels of a comment by state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita that the saffron party would seek the help of the BPF in the state Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Talking to The Sentinel, senior spokesperson and BPF Legislature Party leader Durga Das Boro said, “Recently, we held our Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting. In the meeting, it was decided that we will not side with either the NDA or INDIA in the upcoming LS polls in the state next year but go it alone. We have decided to contest from Kokrajhar and Darrang-Udalguri constituencies.”

When asked about the state BJP statement on seeking BPF’s help in the LS elections, he said, “NDA has already announced that the Kokrajhar seat will be left to an ally. Also, in the Mangaldoi parliamentary constituency (presently known as Darrang-Udalguri), the BJP has a sitting MP, and they will contest the seat. Therefore, if we decide to support the BJP, we will be left with no seat. How can this be possible? During the last year, BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary has been doing organizational activities in BTC, and joining programmes are going on for new members. So, we have decided to go it alone in the next LS polls.”

It should be mentioned here that the BPF has three MLAs in the state Assembly.
