GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet took several decisions on the inquiry into the boat accident, construction of the Jorhat-Majuli Bridge, police verification for government jobs, reservation for the divyangs, forest royalty, ceasefire with the DNLA, etc., on Thursday.

The Cabinet with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the chair entrusted Additional Chief Secretary Manindra Singh to inquire into the boat accident in Nimatighat. Singh will have to submit the report within a month. The Cabinet instructed the Jorhat SP to file a criminal case regarding the boat accident.

The Cabinet also entrusted Finance Minister Ajanta Neog to hold meetings with all stakeholders monthly on the construction of the Jorhat-Majuli Bridge, besides monitoring its construction work. The Cabinet decided to complete the bridge within four years.

The other decisions are–

 From now police verification certificate is not necessary for joining a government job. The government will keep the candidate's affidavit in this regard. If the government detects any wrong information in the affidavit, the candidate will lose his job.

 The Divyangs have a three per cent reservation in education now. The Cabinet decided to make it four per cent for all purposes, including government jobs.

 Reciprocating to the DNLA's six-month ceasefire, the Cabinet decided to stop operation against the out for one month on the condition that the cadres of the outfit cannot roam about with arms and extort cash.

 From now, the forest royalty paid for the use of sand, chips, stones etc., for the construction of government roads and buildings to the Forest Department will get deducted from the contractors' final bills of the department concerned. In the case of private construction, the departments will fix the royalty based on the estimated cost of the forest materials used. The individuals concerned will deposit the amount in the treasuries in four instalments.

 The Cabinet decided to treat the certificates of diplomas and degrees of distant educational institutes on a par with that of campus educational institutions.

 From now, unemployed youths will have to e-register in employment exchanges with the Aadhaar link. Those who have no Aadhaar card can go for offline registration till March 31, 2022.

 The government will start the Covid-19 vaccination drive in a mission mode. The guardian minister will take the lead.
