
Citizen-friendly birth and death registration

Guwahati: On the New Year’s Day of 2025, the Assam Cabinet took a bunch of decisions, including one for streamlining the registration of births and deaths in the state. Decisions were also taken to boost connectivity, enable mutual transfers of employees, and provision of clean drinking water.
The Assam Cabinet, in its meeting on January 1, 2025, put its seal of approval on the Assam Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024, to streamline birth and death registration processes and to make the registration process citizen-friendly.
In order to provide a boost to connectivity and development in rural areas, the state cabinet today approved 104 projects worth Rs 210.8 crore for 12 districts in the state. The projects are expected to benefit people in rural areas in the state.
The cabinet also took a decision to allow seamless mutual transfers among Grade III and Grade IV employees of the state government through approval of the Swagata Satirtha Mutual Transfer online portal. For ensuring a supply of clean drinking water in the four towns of Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, and North Lakhimpur, the cabinet approved Rs 207.92 crore for the execution of water supply projects under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF).
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to announce the cabinet decisions.
