GUWAHATI: The Special Designated Court of the CBI at the District and Session Judge, Bongaigaon, today pronounced life imprisonment for five persons in the case related to the 2012 ethnic conflict in the BTAD (now BTR).

The five convicts are Jainuddin Sheikh, Abdul Khaleque, Nabi Hussain, Habijur Ali, and Osman Ali.

The charges against the five and others were that they attacked three persons and killed one of them (Ratneswar Basumatary) on July 22, 2012, at Hasrawbari in the Bongaigaon district. The incident led to an ethnic conflict in the BTAD, leading to the killing of several people. The Assam government handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI.
