GUWAHATI: Making an appeal to companies manufacturing electronic components for investment in Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that investors’ interest in Assam is at an all-time high. “This is the best time to come to Assam for investment. Our best advantage now is that it doesn’t have the problem of plenty, which allows us to give individual attention to every investor eyeing the state,” he said.

Addressing the Assam Electronics Roundtable-2025 in New Delhi today, the Chief Minister said, “Our government is very flexible to the needs of the industry. We’re willing to sit across the tables with investors to understand their needs and frame policies accordingly. Visit Assam once to witness the changes we are scripting.”

The Chief Minister said that Tata’s semiconductor plant at Jagiroad in the state has changed the industrial scenario in Assam. “We’re going to set up an electronic manufacturing city in the name of Ratan Tata. Negotiations are on with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for funding. There is a huge scope for development in the electronic sector in Assam. With the upcoming semiconductor facility at Jagiroad and our forward-thinking policies, there’s much the industry can look up to.”

The Chief Minister said, “We’ve already adopted an electronic component manufacturing policy in line with the policy of the government of India. Our electronic policy is very simple. Whatever incentives the Government of India provides, we will provide an additional 60 per cent of that amount within seven days of the central government’s disbursement to the industry. We’re cutting through all hurdles, as due diligence will be done by the Government of India.”

The Chief Minister said that Rs 25,000 crore have been kept aside as a corpus fund for production-linked incentives and top-up schemes. He said that one of the advantages of Assam in the electronics industry is that the state has no dearth of talent, as it has a good network of IITs, engineering colleges and Assam Skill University.

He said that from the geographical point of view, Assam stands itself as the most favourable location to focus on the implementation of India’s Act East Policy. “We’ve geographical advantages for being closer to Southeast Asia and disadvantages like connectivity bottlenecks with the rest of India. However, most of the connectivity bottlenecks have been eradicated,” he said, adding, “Once the political upheaval in Southeast Asia calms, the rest of India will do business with Southeast Asia through Assam. Assam aims to emerge as a preferred destination for cutting-edge electronic manufacturing and semiconductor activities. I look forward with you to transform the electronic landscape of Assam.”
