GUWAHATI: A positive note in the State's pandemic scenario is that the number of discharged cured patients is higher than that of the newly registered cases during the last four days from July 22 to 25. According to State Health department data, while 4,314 cases were registered, 5,022 patients were cured and discharged.

On July 22, though 972 positive cases were registered, 1,317 patients were discharged. On July 23, while 1,047 cases were reported, 1,349 other COVID-affected patients were cured and discharged. On July 24, altogether 1130 cases were registered and 1,062 discharged; and on July 25 while there were 1,165 new cases, 1,294 patients were cured and discharged.

Even Kamrup (Metro) district registered less than 500 positive cases daily during this four-day period. While 354 cases were reported from across the district on July 22; 219 cases were reported on July 23; a total of 417 cases were registered on July 24; and 353 cases on July 25.

On the other hand, the single-day highest spike of 777 cases in the district was registered on July 4.

Meanwhile, work has already commenced on the proposed 40-bedded 'Dedicated COVID-19 Hospital' only for women and children at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital here.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet on Sunday night said, "Two more COVID-19 patients, Baisakhi Roy (53) from Tinsukia and Birendra Shah (50) from Dibrugarh, succumbed to their infections. Both of them were admitted at AMCH, Dibrugarh.

"Deeply saddened. May God provide enough strength to their families to bear the loss."

In another tweet, he said, "It is really a joyous moment to see Baby Sarneel Jyoti Sharma, only 3 months old, and mother Hironmoyee Sharma were discharged after defeating COVID-19 from MMCH COVID Hospital. The little baby and mother were felicitated by the Healthcare workers."
