GUWAHATI: The Cabinet today decided to pay a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of every person who died of the Covid-19 in the state. However, the families drawing salary or pension from the government will not get this grant.

Talking to the media here on Wednesday, IPR Minister Pijush Hazarika said, "We have two schemes for the next of kin of those who died of Covid-19. We have fix-deposited Rs 7.50 lakh for 25 years in the account of each Covid orphan. The beneficiary can withdraw the amount with interest after 25 years. We have also paid a one-time grant of Rs 2.50 lakh to each Covid-19 widow. Now, the Cabinet decided to pay a one-time grant of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of each people died of Covid-19. The government will pay the amount on October 2, 2021. Till Tuesday, 5,660 people died of the Covid-19 in the state.

"The deputy commissioners had to spend money for Covid management. They owe various amounts to different parties. The Cabinet today sanctioned Rs 660 crore to enable the deputy commissioners to clear the dues. The recent financial reforms gave the Cabinet the power to sanction any amount over Rs 100 crore directly.

"Each of 22 lakh beneficiaries gets Rs 1,000 per month under the Arundhati Scheme. The Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) Department can deposit the amount directly in the accounts of the beneficiaries, without seeking approval from the Finance department. "Following demands from various quarters, the Cabinet today decided to rename the Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Darrang district to Orang Wildlife Sanctuary.

"The Cabinet decided to induct boxer Jamuna Boro and archer Sanjay Boro into the Excise Department for bringing laurels to the nation. The two sportspersons will get appointment letters on the Sports Day – September 3."
