Till the time of filing of this report, at least 11 aftershocks were felt in different regions in Assam after the earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted Assam at 7.51 am on Wednesday.

GUWAHATI: Till the time of filing of this report, at least 11 aftershocks were felt in different regions in Assam after the earthquake of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale jolted Assam at 7.51 am on Wednesday.

Most of the aftershocks were felt in the Sonitpur Region. According to statistics from the National Centre for Seismology, the first aftershock of 4.7 on the Richter Scale at 8.03 am, the second aftershock of 4 of the Richter Scale at 8.13 am, the third aftershock of 3.6 on the Richter Scale at 8.25 am and the fourth one of 3.6 on the Richter Scale at 8.44 am were felt in the Sonitpur Region.

While the fifth aftershock of 3.2 on the Richter Scale at 10.05 am was felt in the Nagaon Region, the sixth one of 3.4 on the Richter Scale at 10.39 am was felt in Sonitpur Region, the seventh aftershock of 2.9 on the Richter Scale at 12.32 pm was felt in the Morigaon Region, the eighth aftershock of 3.4 on the Richter Scale at 2.34 pm was felt in Sonitpur Region, the ninth aftershock of 2.9 on the Richter Scale at 3.55 pm was felt in Sonitpur Region, the tenth aftershock of 3 on the Richter Scale at 5.39 pm and 11th aftershock of 2.8 on the Richter Scale at 9.38 pm were also felt in the Sonitpur Region.

Meanwhile, since many buildings were damaged in Guwahati a team including Special Director General and Director of Fire and Emergency Services YK Gautam was constituted.

Talking to The Sentinel after their preliminary inspection, a member of the team Rajesh Dutta of the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) said, "Most of the damage are nonstructural, i.e. cracks in walls. One or two structural damage were also seen. They need further inspection."
