GUWAHATI: The flood situation in the State worsened further on Wednesday. With the death of another person at Sivasagar on Wednesday, the death toll in the State has risen to 14.

Five districts – Dhemaji, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh – have been affected. Citing information from the from CWC (Central Water Commission), the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that while the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat and in Dhubri; the Dikhow river is flowing above the danger mark in Sivasagar; the Disang is flowing above the danger mark at Nanglamuraghat, the Dhansiri at Numaligarh and the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur.

As many as 102 villages in eight revenue circles – Dhemaji, Jonai and Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district; Teok in Jorhat district; Majuli in Majuli district; Sivasagar and Nazira in Sivasagar district; and Chabua in Dibrugarh district – have been affected. This part, 37,675 people have been affected by the deluge that has damaged 5,031 hectares of croplands, besides affecting 25,231 big and 5,159 small animals in the state.

Erosion by Gelabill river also affected some places at North Dolijolia and South Dolijolia in Dergaon revenue circle.
