Guwahati: Even as the intensity of the first wave of floods in the state decreased, the number of deaths due to floods registered an increase. In the past 24 hours, three more deaths were recorded in the Kamrup district, taking the death toll to 20.
According to a CWC report, all rivers in the Brahmaputra valley are flowing below the danger level, with a steady or falling trend, as of Sunday evening. Rivers in the Barak Valley are also stated to be flowing below the danger level.
An ASDMA report said that 32 revenue circles in 11 districts of the state are still in the grip of floods. Also, 2.59 lakh people in 741 villages are still affected. A total number of 100 relief camps are now operating in the affected districts, with nearly 25,000 people taking shelter in these camps.
The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre at Guwahati released a report on the observed weather during the last 24 hours.
The report says, “Available data indicated that light to moderate rain occurred at isolated places over Assam. Winds with speeds greater than 30 kmph were reported over the Karbi Anglong & Jorhat districts of Assam (highest wind speed 39 Kmph at Jorhat). There were no large changes in minimum temperatures and maximum temperatures over Assam during the last 24 hrs. However, minimum temperature & maximum temperature were above normal over Assam during the last 24 hrs.”
Jorhat recorded a rainfall of 2 cm or more during the past 24 hrs, the report also stated.
