Assam Floods toll rises to nine with two more deaths in Nagaon district

GUWAHATI: The toll in the first spate of pre-monsoon floods in Assam rose to nine with two more deaths reported from Kampur in Nagaon district on Monday. The flood-affected persons are 1,97, 248 in 253 villages and localities under seven Revenue Circles across three districts of Goalpara, Nagaon, and Hojai, stated a release of ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority).

All the rivers showed a receding pattern and were flowing below the danger level.

Altogether 7,299 people are taking shelter in relief camps and centres with the highest number of 5,571 in Goalpara; followed by 1,728 in Hojai.

The affected crop areas are 24, 927. 5 hectares.

Severe erosion has been reported from the Tal Kalibari area on the river bank of the Brahmaputra under Tezpur Revenue Circle. Owing to erosion, 510 persons have been affected under Chabua Revenue Circle in Dibrugarh district.
