GUWAHATI: The arrest of four persons, leading to the seizure of several animal body parts and animal hunting straps from them in the Chirang district, has proved that poachers are still on the prowl in the state.

In a major crackdown, a joint team of Chirang Police and officials of the Manas National Park arrested four persons—Pradip Narzary, Samar Singh Basumatary, Kanchan Daimary, and a woman—and seized several animal body parts and hunting equipment from them.

The seizure includes three animal hunting iron traps, four big-sized wild boar teeth, wild animal bones, six wild animal teeth, dry tiger tongue and hair, twenty pieces of porcupine thorns, pistol grips, iron pipes, etc.

In his X handle, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We’re on a mission to eliminate animal poaching and trade.”
