Assam Government Allotted Rs 2 Crore For Development of Xattras

GUWAHATI: The Government of Assam has sanctioned a total of Rs 2 crore for the development of Xattras across the State. The amount will be utilized for the protection, preservation, and development of these religious institutions. The scheme will be implemented by the Directorate of Archaeology, Assam, through the respective deputy commissioners.

Meanwhile, the State Directorate of Archaeology has selected the following 20 xattras for the fiscal 2018-19. Each xattra will be allotted Rs 10 lakh under this scheme. As per the scheme, the Directorate will release the fund to the respective DCs; and the DCs will release the money to the Xattras concerned. The respective xattras will utilize the fund as per their requirement.

Talkiong to The Sentinel, Archaeology Minister Keshab Mahanta said, “One of the thrust areas of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government is the development of the Xattras. Hence, the government will assist the xattras in this regard. It will continue.”

The selected xattras are Sri Sri Majuli Bor Alengi Xattra in Majuli district; Keoliya Hati at Boguwan in Goalpara district; 1 No Laukuri Xattra in Kamrup district; Gharmora Xattra at Boginodi in Lakhimpur district; Dindinga Srinagar Xattra in Dhubri district; Dinjoy Xattra at Chabua in Dibrugarh district; Chipoha Xattra at Bokakhat in Golaghat district; Rajbari Belguri Xattra at Gohpur and Kamalabari Xattra at Sootea – both in Biswanath district; Shalaguri Xattra and Konwarpur Barkhatpar Xattra – both in Sivasagar district; Sri Sri Ramcharan Thakur Xattra at Kalbari, Bhawanipur; Belbari Xattra at Sarthebari; and Akoya Xattra at Pathsala – all in Barpeta district; Torabari Kalchila Xattra and Naokata Kalchila Xattra—both in Morigaon district; Sri Sri Jagoral Xattra at Salsali, Brahmangaon; Punia Xattra at Jaipurgaon, Chauldhowa; Chipoha Xattra at Hatbor, Kaliabor; and Bhagawati Brahmachari Xattra at Nonoi – all in Nagaon district.
