GUWAHATI: The Assam Government ordered a judicial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the killing of two persons and injury to several others at Dhalpur. A retired judge of the Gauhati High Court will conduct the inquiry.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The incident occurred as the police personnel resorted to retaliatory firing in self-defence when a section of encroachers armed with sharp weapons like machetes, spears etc., attacked them. The eviction drive will continue."
