Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government has directly procured 6.5 lakh Gamosas from weavers in the state this year and plans to purchase a total of 10 lakh Gamosas in the upcoming year.

This was revealed during a virtual meeting on Monday by the CM with district commissioners (DCs) and co-district commissioners. The CM urged the DCs to purchase Gamosas directly from the weavers and incorporate them in government programmes. He highlighted the growing recognition of the Gamosa in states like Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh and mentioned that he had encouraged the chief ministers of these states to buy Gamosas from Assam. He also said that, in the future, a Gamosa sales centre would be established in every Assam Bhawan in the country.

The CM plans to gift around 5 lakh Gamosas during Rongali Bihu to noted people from different fields across India, including Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, MPs, MLAs, journalists, businessmen, etc. Already the packaging of the gamosas has begun, he said.
