Assam Government released Rs 11.78 crore for flood-affected people

GUWAHATI: The State government has released Rs 11.78 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the people affected by natural calamities. Of this, while Rs 6.35 crore is for the flood-affected people as gratuitous relief (GR), another amount of Rs 5.43 crore is to carry out various relief operations for the storm-affected people.

The GR Fund is utilized for supplying essential food items, fodder, tarpaulins etc for the people affected by natural calamities. Sources in the Revenue & Disaster Management Department told The Sentinel that the GR Fund for seven districts and one sub-division has been released as follows: Rs one crore each for Hojai, Nagaon, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Nalbari districts; Rs 50 lakh each for the districts of Dibrugarh and West Karbi Anglong; Rs 35 lakh for Sadiya sub-division under Tinsukia district. The DCs and SDOs (Civil) have been directed to submit proposals seeking additional funds from the department as and when the need arises. The Department is preparing GRF proposals for the other districts as well.

With reference to the Rs 5.43 crore released for reconstruction of the partially and fully damaged dwellings of the storm-affected people, the government has allotted the maximum amount of Rs 4.60 crore to the Sadiya sub-division followed by Rs 83 lakh to Lakhimpur district. The Department is also processing the proposals of a few other DCs in this regard.

An amount of Rs 95,100 is given to each owner of a fully damaged house due to storms in the plains area under State Disaster Response Fund.
