STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government on Monday approved payment of 3 per cent enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA)/Dearness Relief (DR) to government employees/pensioners/family pension holders/extraordinary pension holders.

The revised rates will have retrospective effect from January 1, 2022, and will be applicable for revised pay scale as per AS (ROP) Rules, 2017. This means that the employees/pensioners will receive DA/DR at the rate of 34 per cent of basic pay/basic pension per month.

The order will apply to government employees who were brought over to the revised Scale of Pay with effect from April 4, 2016 and to those who elected to retain the scale of pay that prevailed prior to April 1, 2016. The arrear DA/DR with effect from January 1, 2022, to March 31, 2022, will be paid in a single instalment through the bank accounts of the employees/pensioners.

DA/DR demanded for contractual teachers: Meanwhile, the Sadou Asom Sanmilita Sikshak Mancha, while welcoming the release of revised Dearness Allowance/Dearness Relief by the State Government on Monday, has expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of teachers working under the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Assam (SSA).

The organization said that this sort of deprivation might force teachers to take recourse to agitation once again. It pointed out that the State Cabinet had decided in July 2020 to grant facilities to contractual teachers under SSA which would be at par with those provided to regular teachers, till such time as the former's services are not regularized. The government also issued a notification in this regard, the organization said.

However, contractual teachers under the SSA have received only 17 per cent DA so far, while other government teachers and employees have been receiving enhanced DA since July 2021. The Mancha demanded that the government should release all arrear DA/DR to all contractual teachers under the SSA.
