Assam Government To Monitor Policing On Daily Basis
Published on:

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has initiated a major move to daily monitor all crime-related cases across the State. The step has been initiated with the dual purpose of ensuring transparency in the policing mechanism and regularly checking the performance of the Police personnel right from the grassroots level.

In this regard, the Home and Political Department has asked the NIC (National Informatics Centre) to design a dashboard. The department will be asking the Superintendents of Police (SPs) to prepare the data in the prescribed format.

This novel method is a step forward from the hitherto followed procedure whereby the SP offices furnish such data as and when sought by the government. Following preparation of the dashboard, the SP offices will have to upload all crime-related cases daily. This will help the government to centrally monitor it on a day-to-day basis.

The proposed progress report of the Police department will have more than 40 major heads. Some among them are: The number of cases registered; Kidnappings; Dacoity/Theft; Bandh calls; Women-related crimes; Child-related crimes; Execution of Non-bailable arrest; Firearms seized; VIP movements; Theft in religious institutions; Road blocks; Any cases of firings; and Number of arrests.
