Assam Government to set up 12 more border outposts

The State Government will set up 12 more BOPs (border outposts) along the stretches of its inter-state boundaries.

GUWAHATI: The State Government will set up 12 more BOPs (border outposts) along the stretches of its inter-state boundaries. The state has 99 BOPs along its inter-state boundaries.

The new BOPs will be at Borrpunji, Sunatola, Lakhipur, Adamtila and Karkhana Putni in the Karimganj district; Leverputa in the Cachar district; Gadhuli Gaon, Deepsar, Sichumara and Dewaneralga Sar in the South Salmara district; and Bhogdahar and Ghewmari in the Dhubri district.

The State Police has already prepared proposals for the new BOPs and sent them to the government for approval.

Twenty-four of the 34 districts of the state share 2741.3-km inter-state boundaries with seven neighbouring states – 512.1 km with Nagaland, 804.1 km with Arunachal Pradesh, 204.1 km with Manipur, 164.6 km with Mizoram, 46.3 km with Tripura, 884.9 km with Meghalaya and 127 km with West Bengal.
