Assam Governor warns all concerned authorities to stop illegal timber trade in BTAD

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has taken illegal tree felling, illegal timber trade and illegal sand mining in the BTAD areas seriously and warned the authorities concerned to stop it.

Chairing a high-level meeting with the Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and others at Raj Bhavan on Friday, Prof. Mukhi stressed proactive steps to stop illegal tree felling, illegal timber trade and illegal sand mining in the BTAD areas.

The Governor warned the officials of the Forest and related department against any kind of illegality on forest resources, besides encroachment in the forest areas. The meeting took several important decisions in this regard.

The Governor said that transparency should be maintained at every level and all the system of operation should be computerized on a priority basis immediately. The BTC Administrator, the Additional PCCF and the forest officials were asked to work it out at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya assured the Governor of all cooperation and guidance in stopping the illegal tree felling and illegal timber trade and illegal sand mining in the BTAD areas, a press release said.
