GUWAHATI: The Assam government is going to extend financial help amounting to Rs 25,000 to each of the State’s cancer patients and also patients who are in other States for heart and kidney transplantations during the COVID-19 lockdown. Many such patients from Assam are now stuck in other States of the country. This was stated by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika while addressing a press conference here on Sunday.

He added that some of the patients have already contacted the State government for assistance. “At present, 166 persons are in the quarantine centre at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati,” the Minister said, adding, “Over 3,000 corona tests have been conducted in the State, and only 29 of them tested positive.” One of the 29 corona patients died of the virus.

Reacting to Congress MP Ripun Bora’s letter to the Morigaon Deputy Commissioner that some people of Jagiroad in Morigaon district were starving, the Minister claimed, “The allegation is false. I’ve taken the ground report from the district. Nobody is starving in the Jagiroad area in the district.”
