Guwahati: In a major anti-tax evasion operation, the state GST department of Assam has successfully recovered Rs 7.5 crore from Kaluwala Construction Private Limited, a Haryana-based firm currently involved in constructing the four-lane highway from Assam’s Dhemaji to Oyan in Arunachal Pradesh.

A 12-member special team from the GST head office in Guwahati carried out the high-intensity enforcement operation over a span of six days. Preliminary investigations have uncovered an estimated tax evasion of Rs 64 crore by the company.

State GST sources revealed that the company failed to provide satisfactory explanations for several inconsistencies found in its GST records during verification. This led to immediate enforcement action and the realization of Rs 7.5 crore in dues.

Further verification is ongoing to assess the total extent of evasion and initiate appropriate legal proceedings, the sources added.
