GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an orange alert for rainfall in four districts of Assam for May 19. The four districts are Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi and Sribhumi.
According to IMD, an orange alert is a warning asking people ‘to be prepared to take action’. The IMD has also sounded a yellow alert (be aware) for several districts of Assam, including Kamrup (M), for May 19. The IMD observed that the upper air cyclonic circulation over central Assam extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.
It is predicted that thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied with gusty winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph, are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura on May 19.

The IMD further predicts heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya and heavy rain at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on May 19.
In the past 24 hours, Majbat and Beki-Mathanguri received the highest rainfall of 5 cm in Assam.
According to the CWC report, the Brahmaputra is rising but still below warning level at Neamatighat in the Jorhat district, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri.
