GUWAHATI: The industrial units in Assam have received around Rs 3,740 crore as subsidies under various schemes since 2016.
According to Industries Minister Bimal Borah, 1,405 industrial units have received Rs 1,421 crore as capital investment subsidies under North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP). Sixty-four industrial units received Rs 537 crore as subsidies under freight subsidy schemes, 90 industrial units received Rs 1154 crore as transport subsidies, 548 industrial units received Rs 616 crore as central capital investment incentives under North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS), and 315 industrial units received Rs 10.84 crore under the industrial and investment policy of Assam.
The minister informed the House that all these industries have 55,625 employees, 80 percent of whom are residents of the state.
Borah further said that the government is going to offer some incentives to micro food processing units based on paddy, banana, lemon, bhut jolokia, ginger, turmeric, mushroom, jackfruit, etc., under the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme. Under this scheme, 1,320 entrepreneurs received Rs 24.72 crore as capital investment. The self-help groups received Rs 65.13 crore as seed capital. In addition to this, training was imparted to 4,915 entrepreneurs.
