Assam-Meghalaya border issues: Regional committees discuss 3 disputed areas

GUWAHATI: The regional committees of Assam and Meghalaya had a meeting on the three disputed areas sharing borders with the Kamrup and Kamrup (M) districts here at Koinadhara Guest House today. Border Area Development Minister Atul Bora and Chandra Mohan Patowary led the Assam side, and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong led the Meghalaya side.

Both the regional committees presented their respective findings at the meeting. The meeting decided that the regional committees will jointly visit the West Dimoria region on August 26, 2023. Earlier, the regional committees met on July 15, 2023, at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School's auditorium at Umkiang in East Jaintia Hill.

After today's meeting, Minister Atul Bora said, "The long-pending inter-state border issues between Assam and Meghalaya are at the final stage of being resolved permanently. This has been possible only due to political good will and persistent efforts by the chief ministers of both states."

The two states resolved six of the 12 disputed areas between them with the signing of an MoU last year.
