BOKO: The reaction of the local people at Boko along the Assam-Meghalaya border in the Kamrup district seems mixed.

Meghalaya supporters allegedly uprooted a survey pillar of Assam on the Boko border on Wednesday night.

Miscreants allegedly uprooted the pillar of the Assam Government's Survey Department at Compaduli village near Lampi along the Assam-Meghalaya border. The miscreants uprooted two concrete poles. The poles were erected in Compaduli about a week ago.

The incident came close on the heels of the signing of the agreement to resolve the border disputes. The two chief ministers signed the historic agreement in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday to resolve the border issue in six disputed areas in the first phase. Out of the six disputed areas, three disputed areas of the Boko constituency in Kamrup district are Hahim, Tarabari and Gizang. Many villages in this area of Assam now fall in Meghalaya.

Malang Shalbari village under the Tarabari region was reportedly in Assam, not Meghalaya. There was joy among about 30 families in the village. They wanted to stay in Assam. For the past few days, antisocial elements were allegedly harassing the people supporting Assam at Malang Shalbari in the Tarabari region.
