Assam: Minister G K Reddy on illegal coal mining, syndicates

Sonapur: On the sidelines of the two-day 2nd North East Mining Minister's Conclave in Sonapur on Friday, Union Minister of Mines and Coal, G. Kishan Reddy, maintained that the responsibility of taking action against illegal mining and syndicates lies with the respective state governments.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy stated, "No illegal coal mines can exist in Assam or any other northeastern state. Directions have been issued for 100% closure of such mines. As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the Government of India has instructed the states to take strict action against illegal mining."

"The responsibility of taking action against illegal mining and syndicates lies with the respective state governments."

"The people of Assam must raise their voices against syndicates. Syndicates controlling mineral resources is unacceptable, as minerals are national assets."

The Minister said, "The Assam government is working against illegal mining. Illegal coal mining in Assam has completely stopped."

He expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives in incidents related to illegal coal mining in Dima Hasao.
