Assam: Nearly 20 Lakh Houses under PMAY-G Completed in State

A total of 22,10,728 houses in rural areas of Assam have been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) and houses for 3,88,358 eligible beneficiaries remain to be sanctioned.

Guwahati: A total of 22,10,728 houses in rural areas of Assam have been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) and houses for 3,88,358 eligible beneficiaries remain to be sanctioned. So far, a total of 19,93,111 rural houses have been completed in the state.

In a period of less than four years, the implementation of PMAY-Gramin has picked up considerably under the Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa sarma-led state government. PMAY-Gramin is implemented in the state by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, with the support of gaon panchayats.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass informed The Sentinel that work on the remaining houses under construction has been instructed to be speeded up.

Under PMAY-G, a target of 84,37,139 houses has been allocated to States/UTs during the current FY 2024-25 out of the existing SECC 2011 based PWL and Awaas + 2018 survey list. The Awaas + 2018 survey list has been saturated through the allocation of targets for 22 states/UTs, namely, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh, and Ladakh.

According to a report by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, insofar as the completion of rural houses under PMAY-G in the Northeast is concerned, a total of 37,773 houses have been completed in Manipur, 1,30,604 in Meghalaya, 24,605 houses in Mizoram, 22,643 houses in Nagaland, 1,386 in Sikkim, 3,67,844 in Tripura, and 35,584 houses have been completed in Arunachal Pradesh. So far, a total of 19,93,111 rural houses have been completed in Assam, the highest among the NE states.

Under PMAY-G, the house is constructed by the beneficiary himself/herself or under his/her supervision. Further, as per the guidelines of PMAY-G, the States/UTs should provide the beneficiaries a bouquet of options of house designs according to the local climatic conditions, using appropriate local material and technology suitable to the region of their residence. Also, based on requests from the beneficiaries, the State/UT Government may facilitate the supply of construction material at competitive rates.
