GUWAHATI: Missing several target schedules, the NHIDCL (National Highway Infrastructure and Development Corporation Ltd) has set the fresh target of December 31, 2025, for the completion of the remaining works of the Jorhat-Dibrugarh four-lane national highway.
NHIDCL MD Dr. Krishan Kumar assured Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma of this when the Chief Minister met him in New Delhi yesterday.
When the Chief Minister met Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in October 2024, the NHIDCL assured the Chief Minister that the NH work would be completed in the following months. The work of the 143-km Jorhat-Dibrugarh stretch of the national highway has been going on for the past nine years, leading to agitations by students and youths from time to time. “It has been very annoying that after nine years the work of the four-lane highway has not been completed. NHIDCL should take responsibility for the sluggish pace of the work,” a local leader of the AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) said.
The Chief Minister said, “We are all confident now to complete the Jorhat-Dibrugarh National Highway work by December 31, 2025.”
