GUWAHATI: Undergraduate admissions in Assam through the central SAMARTH portal (non-CUET mode) have shown the highest growth over the past three academic years, with significant strides in student enrolment and fee waivers.

According to DHE (Directorate of Higher Education), for the academic session 2025-26, a total of 2,14,831 of the 2,56,590 applicants were admitted into various colleges in the state through non-CUET mode. The absorption ratio that stands at 83.7% marks a steady improvement from the previous three years. With the results of CUET (Common University Entrance Test) scheduled to be declared in July, the number of enrolments will go up further.

In the academic session 2024-25, a total of 2,08,269 students enrolled themselves in undergraduate programmes through the SAMARTH portal in both CUET and non-CUET modes. In the academic session 2023-24, a total of 1,88,841 students enrolled themselves in undergraduate programmes in the state.

As many as 1,74,146 students who enrolled themselves in undergraduate programme in the academic session 2025-26 received fee waivers, with 87 per cent of them in government-funded colleges.

Of the 3,38,537 available seats in the state, 2,14,831 seats have been filled under the non-CUET mode, registering 63.5 per cent.

As many as 2,47,462 candidates cleared the HS final examinations in 2025 under the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) II.

The top ten colleges granting admissions were led by Mangaldai College, which admitted 2,283 students, followed by Rangia College (2,142) and Pub Kamrup College (1,892).

This upward trend reflects improved accessibility and outreach in Assam's higher education system, especially under the non-CUET framework facilitated by the SAMARTH portal.
